Ohio's Intensive Pedagogical Training Institute (IPTI)

Important: The IPTI is not part of the University's enrolled system and is not a college course. The fee you have paid is a registration fee and not tuition. The IPTI does not earn college credit and is not stated on a university transcript. The IPTI is not eligible for financial aid or tuition reimbursement. School districts may offer financial reimbursement for non-credit bearing trainings. Check with your school district's HR Department.

Ohio's Intensive Pedagogical Training Institute (IPTI) delivers pedagogical content online modules for an Ohio Alternative Resident Educator License. IPTI provides instruction in the principles and practices of teaching and covers topics related to student development and learning, formative and summative assessment processes, curriculum development, and classroom management. IPTI is asynchronous online content, available 24/7 that a participant completes at his or her own pace. IPTI consists of 3 mastery-based content modules, 15 assignments, and a field experience requirement. IPTI participants demonstrate mastery of content with a minimum score of 80% for each assignment. While assignments are graded, a participant has no live interaction with the IPTI instructor. NO live (synchronous) or face-to-face coaching sessions are offered. If a participant seeks to interact with the instructor to receive additional support, please register for the Alternative Resident Educator Institute (AREI). Successful completion of IPTI assists an individual with the initial requirement for an Ohio Alternative Resident Educator License.

The IPTI requires 25 hours field experience in a K-12 classroom in the content area for which licensure is being sought. If you have at least 25 hours of previous teaching experience in your content area, you can request a waiver once you have registered. If not, you will be required to secure a placement in a K-12 classroom. If you plan to register during the summer, please be advised that you will still need to find a summer school K-12 classroom for your field experience. If that is not a possibility, you may wish to postpone your registration until you have access to a classroom. You 16-week registration period begins as soon as you complete registration payment.
